Week 3 was a bumpy one for me as I lost both my games by a combined total of 18 points. Starting lineup-wise there really wasn’t much I could’ve have done better that would have earned me the win.
I did change my lineup from the one I published a week ago. Josh Gordon did get the start over Cole Beasley in my flex with the news of the Patriots releasing Antonio Brown. The switch was a wash.
What could I have done differently? Robert Woods is becoming collateral damage in a deep receiving corp in LA. Delanie Walker is suffering because Tennessee’s offense just isn’t very good. I suppose I could have benched Woods and Walker, shifted either Beasley or Gordon to a WR spot. Then I could have used Rex Burkhead (6 rec, 69 total yds. TD, 18.9 fpts) in the flex and started recently-added Will Dissly (6 rec, 62yds, TD, 18.2 fpts) in at TE.
Matt Prater over Stephen Gostkowski would have landed me the points I needed to eek out the win in this game. My opponent had big days from Nelson Agholor, WR, PHI (23 fpts), Dalvin Cook, RB, MIN (24.3 fpts) and Darren Waller TE, OAK (27.1 fpts) to carry him through the day.
So it will be back to the drawing board for me this week. Dak Prescott, Aaron Jone, Austin Ekeler and Julio Jones are solid starters for me. Aaron Jones is the one to watch, as he usually fades in and out. The other three are pretty solid.
The tough choices:
Robert Woods – a great talent, but he is sharing targets with a deep receiver and back corps and it ultimately costs him. Although he is going up against a Bucs D that was just carved up by Daniel Jones and no receivers. I will have to let this marinate.
Josh Gordon – Brown gone, and potential injury to Edelman would mean big things for Gordon. A tough Bills defense on the road, I’m thinking the Pats may utilize the RBs out of the backfield. Also a wait and see.
Rex Burkhead – For the opposite reasons for Gordon.
James Conner – is this a lost season in Pittsburgh? I think so.
Will Dissly – He has caught TDs in his last two games. But Walker is playing at Atlanta and they usually play an up and down pace.
The lineup as of today:
QB Dak Prescott – The Dak train keeps plugging along
RB Aaron Jones – James Conner vs. Cincinnati is very tempting, however
RB Austin Ekeler – Melvin who?
WR Julio Jones – Me and Julio down by the Schoolyard
WR Josh Gordon – This will change 15 times before it is final
TE Delanie Walker – He’s earning it
Flex Rex Burkhead – The backs are going to spread that Bills D thin
D/ST Chargers – Shake it up a bit
K Matt Prater – I am doing something Belichick won’t: bench Gostkowski
Players on not in my team that I am high on in Week 4
QB – Pat Mahomes – This kid is awesome. Playing at Detroit, and they love to give up chunks of receiving yards, could allow Mahomes to have a big day.
RB – Marlon Mack is going up against a Raiders defense that gave up 211 yds rushing in 3 TDs to Minnesota. Getting them at home (Dome and Turf, like Minnesota) could open this up for a big day on the ground.
WR – Cooper Kupp – for the same reason I am thinking about benching Woods. He is slowly becoming Jared Goff’s safety net. Grabbing 11 catches for 102 yards and 2 TDs against the Brown’s just states the obvious
TE – Evan Engram – When there is an upstart young QB, there is always an athletic TE that benefits – 113 yard and a TD against the Bucs was a good start. A divisional game at home against Washington can only mean good things.
