So week one is in the books in my work league and I am happy to say that I am (1-0). I won 170.8-126.4
My key decisions in Week 1 were whether to start Aaron Jones. I chose not to and it seemed solid based on his 13/39 rushing yards and his 1/0 receiving numbers. That totaled for 4.9 points. I decided to bench him because he was on the road against a solid Bears defense. Nothing against you Aaron, I played the odds.
I also struggled with the Dak Prescott over Baker Mayfield decision. I’m sorry, I’m not all in on the Browns this year. They are a wonderful story, I think Mayfield is going to be great. I just think that we need to see whether they can win with that crew (which has no pedigree of winning to date) before we hand them the Lombardi Trophy.
I took Prescott because he has a lot to prove this year. With Kirk Cousins, Jimmy Garoppolo and (gulp) Jacoby Brissette getting big contracts, it will be about him this year, although he has more playoff victories over the other three QB’s combined.
Prescott always does well against the Giants. He has won the last four meetings against the Giants with nine touchdowns and no interceptions. Mayfield’s 27/14 TD/Int ratio just didn’t sell me on it. Prescott proved to be the right choice (25/32, 405 and 4 TDs, 33.4 pts). Mayfield was less than stellar (25/38, 285 yds 1 TD’s 3 INT’s)
With Melvin Gordon continuing to hold out, I’m all in on Austin Ekeler. I’ve always been a fan of Ekeler because of his receiving abilities, and with most leagues going to a PPR format, Ekeler is a solid back. It worked out with his 39.4 point performance. Ekeler totaled 96 receiving yards and 3 TD’s (1 ru, 2 rec)
Here is my week two lineup:
QB Dak Prescott Got to dance with who brought you
RB James Conner Facing a tough D on the road, but he was solid against the Pats. I will ride him
RB Austin Ekeler He needs to be dead at this point
WR Julio Jones Nursing a wrist injury so this may change.
WR Robert Woods He gets a lot of targets and every once in a while a few rushes around the end
TE Delanie Walker Had a good week one, hopefully it spills into week 2
Flex Josh Gordon The addition of AB may force him to the bench
D/ST Titans Great week 1. They get Indy at home while the Chargers go to Detroit
K Stephen Gostkowski He may get 10 points on extra points alone
Possible Change from Bench
RB Aaron Jones. He may replace Gordon as my Flex
Players that are not on my team that I really like this week:
QB – How do you not like Tom Brady with his new toy, and how he played well with his old ones against Pittsburgh? Given Miami gave up 59 points to Lamar Jackson, I’m high on Brady.
RB – I think Devonta Freeman will bounce back at home against Philadelphia. Freeman couldn’t get going because the Falcons fell behind early. I was not impressed with Philly’s defense either
WR – Sammy Watkins has a great opportunity with Tyreek HIll being out for a while. He proved he can carry the load against a good Jaguars defense. Now he faces Oakland and that only means good things. I also like Michael Thomas against the Rams. That games smells of an early-season shootout.
TE – Travis Kelce – Always Travis Kelce. I like Watkins for the same reasons.
Until next week, enjoy.
